ADVANCED MARIONETTes

In this wildly fun and challenging course, participants create 14” to 18” tall cabaret-style marionettes and learn how to manipulate them. Students sculpt puppet parts out of various materials including rigid EPS foam (blue or pink insulation) and clays. Foam parts are coated with papier mache or plaster and decorated using findings and acrylic paints.

The program begins with a classical fable, story, or student-written work, which is adapted into a script by the group and produced as a short, (15- 20 minute) puppet show for the community.

Previous shows include: “Where the Wild Things Are”, “Rip Van Winkle”, “A Bad Case of Stripes”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “The Cat in the Hat” and “The Ant Bully.”

These programs are a fantastic way to encourage reading, creative writing, drama studies and to address challenging issues in schools.
